POSITION OPEN: Part-time EMT-P and EMT-I positions

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Responsible for rendering emergency medical care and life saving measures; operation of emergency vehicles and equipment; and reports. Employee responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary emergency medical care and treatment, and transporting persons to the most appropriate medical facility. Performs related duties as required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Modified DuPont schedule (12 hr shifts 36/48). Must be able to work weekends, holidays, inclement weather and special events. Polk County EMS is the primary ALS provider for 239 sq miles. Applicants must possess and maintain a clean criminal record without a felony or serious misdemeanor conviction.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school, completion of accredited EMT-P program. Current certification through N.C. Office of Emergency Medical Services as an EMT-Paramedic is required. Applicants must possess and maintain valid N.C. Driver’s License without restriction. Must be physically able to operate a loaded ambulance stretcher.  S.C. Driver's License o.k. for residents who live in South Carolina.

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection procedures will include detailed review of applications, an oral interview, scenario skills testing, a lift test, and a written evaluation. Pre-employment background check, drug screen and driving record check are required.
